Page names
[edit]Please don't make page titles that are subsidiaries of other pages, for example "Page/subpage". Wikipedia has specifically stoppped using that format. Just create the "subpage" article with a full title of its own. I'm not sure of the value of creating all of these pages for boards, but that's a different matter. -Will Beback 21:24, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey Chad, to answer your question "Is there an article related to the subject of board members being part of multiple boards?", there appear to be 2: Interlocking directorate and Corporate interlocks. The 1st is brief; the 2nd seems to deal with the issue from a sociological standpoint rather than corporate governance. Oregon election

Thanks for the note. Yes, I had originally made the legislature table a separate table. A novice Wikipedia editor pointed out to me how difficult that made it to make modifications...and I realized it really served no purpose to keep it separate, so I copied it into the main page.
Unfortunately, when I attempted to delete the now-irrelevant table page, a "bot" would not allow me to.
If you know a way to get it deleted, delete away!

Bruce Guthrie
[edit]Hi,
I was the person who removed the biographical paragraph from the Bruce Guthrie article. The reason I removed it is that it is a direct copy of text from a page which asserts copyright [2]. This page asserts a copyright, so I don't think that this text can stand as it is. Am I misunderstanding the copyright policy? ScottW 20:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree that the information should exist in some form. There's actually a little more information I'm planning on putting in once the AfD issue is resolved (assuming it's kept). I may also try to reorganize the information as well. I saw your changes to the paragraph, and I think that it should be ok (although I'm not sure that technically it is different enough). [edit]The problem is that the whole Wikipedia article is a copy of a source that is not giving information for free. If there is not enough information about the topic, it is better to have no article than to have a copy from a copyrighted text. Note that the article is giving two external links but no reference. When copying something from another site, use a quote or italics, and add the link just after the quotation, so that it can be seen as reference. -- ReyBrujo 17:16, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. Rewriting the article is a good step. As for "automatically declaring that anything copied and not formatted properly is grounds for deletion and possible blocking of the user", don't worry. Unless the user keeps adding dubious copyright statements, he will not be blocked. At worst, if the article is deleted it can be recreated. The article was tagged by a bot[3] which does a search for every new article and reports if the text has been found somewhere. We are not trying to discourage people from creating articles, but instead to educate them. You can create a temporal page from that Institute page. If the article is deleted due copyright problems, the copy is put in its place. -- ReyBrujo 19:37, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

- The point is that it is text that has been copied without permission. Copyrights are important and need to be respected. One cannot just copy text from another source and insert it into wikipedia without confirming that the text is either public domain or released under the GFDL. - With all due respect, I don't have time either. Too big a project. The imperialistic attitude is why I left this project before. However, there are minimum rules for inclusion and one of those rules is size. You can leave a stub, but it should be more than a single sentence and a taxobox. I make original contributions as well, but I try to fulfill the minimum requirements for size when I do. There is no reason for you not to recreate the article. Just add some more info when you do. If you had hung the construction template on it the first time, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Technically, it's still a speedy but I'll leave it up to you to flesh it out. Regarding Jimbo: I have the utmost respect for him, but he lets this site pretty much run itself. He probably logs on less than anyone else here. Relax and remember WP:BITE. - I'm not sure, frankly. Maybe put all the 50 states elections templates into one meta-category, such as, "Category:United States state elections templates." - Good point. I'm not finding a lot of templates that need to go into categories yet. Right now I'm trying to clean up the state elections categories by separating them out by year for each state. Probably overboard, but I've been seeing more and more articles popping up as more people actually start to pay attention and want to look up or contribute. So I'm trying to put things into a organized pattern. What's the general rule on how many, or how few, articles should be in a category to make it worth keeping? I see that there are now an article and a subcategory, Massachusetts presidential primary navigational boxes. That sub-cat is so overboard because it's templates are just unnecessary. Chad, in 2005, some information about the federal election for President were added to the Eastgate CDP, Washington article under politics. 2010 Elections
[edit]The election is still two years away, and we haven't even had this year's yet. You're not going to have any references for the article, most likely until those papers are filed, yes. Until that time, everything is going to be pure speculation, which is not what Wikipedia is for. You need reliable sources to verify anything you add, which is what you were told in the last AfD. Guessing what is going to happen is a violation of WP:CRYSTAL, and would be entirely original research. Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group

Hi. Just ran into United States Senate election in Hawaii, 2010 and I'm curious about it. Can you point me towards any policies and guidelines related to future elections in the United States? How are future articles typically assessed? I see 157 articles in Category:Future elections in the United States but don't see many assessments. I'm also not seeing a consistent format or layout. - Hi there. The project kind of died on the vine, so nobody actually came up with the standards for future elections. I've been collecting detailed history information at a county level for the Presidential elections, and have started a few foundations for the 2010 elections, but haven't had time to really do much more than that. There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
